Drivers advised of closures on M74 in Lanarkshire for four consecutive nights

Drivers who use the M74 in Lanarkshire are being advised that the southbound carriageway will be closed for four consecutive nights at the start of next month.

The carriageway will close between Junction 3A Daldowie and the approaches to Junction 6 Hamilton/Motherwell for four consecutive nights, commencing on Tuesday, August 1.

This is to allow for essential traffic sensor installation works. The closures have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic and are required to ensure road user and road worker safety.

The works will take place in two phases as follows:

Phase 1: The M74 southbound carriageway between Junction 3A Daldowie and Junction 4 Maryville will be closed overnight for two nights as detailed below:

Tuesday and Wednesday, August 1 and 2 (two nights) - between 10pm and 6am the following day.

As a result, the M74 southbound link road to M73 northbound at Junction 4 Maryville will also be closed.

Phase 2: The M74 southbound carriageway between Junction 5 Raith and Junction 6 Hamilton/Motherwell, will be closed for two nights as detailed below:

Thursday and Friday, August 3 and 4 (two nights) - between 10pm and 6am the following day.

As a result, the following M74 southbound slip roads will also be closed; Junction 5 Raith on slip road from Raith roundabout (A725), Junction 6 off slip road for Hamilton (A723), and Junction 6 off slip for Motherwell (A723).

Signed diversion routes will be in place during the closures. Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland prior to travelling on these evenings.

These overnight closures have been phased to ensure only one section of the M74 southbound carriageway is closed at any given time.

The works will be carried out by Scottish Roads Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of the route. The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Glasgow City Council, North Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council, Amey South West Unit and Police Scotland.

Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

If you have any enquiries regarding these works, please contact Scottish Roads Partnership on 0800 042 0188 or info@scotroadspartnership.co.uk.
