Driver 'narrowly misses' police officers directing traffic on busy Ayrshire road

Police officers had a close call while attending an incident on a major Ayrshire road last night.

Cops were helping direct traffic on the A76 outside Little Bargower between Crossroads and Crosshands after a vehicle had broken down at around 6pm.

Officers claim a driver failed to see the road police on the major East Ayrshire route and "narrowly missed" cops at the scene.

Police have confirmed today that a 45-year-old woman has been reported to the procurator fiscal for various road traffic offences in connection with the incident.

A police Scotland spokesperson said on Thursday night: "After failing to observe Ayrshire Road Policing officers stopping and directing traffic today on A76 East Ayrshire and narrowly missing the officers, a female has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal for various road traffic offences.

"Please remember you must stop your vehicle when instructed by a Constable in uniform; this is for your safety and the safety of all other road users who may be assisting police at the incident."
