Driver left with 'life threatening injuries' following crash between HGV and car in Prudhoe

A driver has been left with 'life-threatening injuries' following a collision between a HGV and a car in Prudhoe.

Police were called to a report of a collision involving a car and a HGV on the A695, Prudhoe around 2pm on Tuesday.

The Great North Air Ambulance were also called to the scene and North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and Northumberland Fire and Rescue are also assisting near the Low Prudhoe Industrial estate. Police officers have said a male driver of the car has 'serious, life-threatening injuries' and the road is currently closed while emergency services remain in attendance.

The road is currently closed and will remain shut for 'several hours', police have said. Diversions are in place from the McDonald's roundabout and junction with Prudhoe Golf Course. Motorists were asked to avoid the area.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “Officers are currently in attendance at the scene of a serious collision, involving a car and a HGV on the A695, Prudhoe.

“Shortly after 1.55pm today (Tuesday) police received a report a car had been in collision with a HGV near the Low Prudhoe Industrial estate.

“The male driver of the car has serious, life-threatening injuries and the road has been closed while emergency services remain in attendance.

“Diversions are in place from the McDonald's roundabout and junction with Prudhoe Golf Course, and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.”

A spokeswoman from the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 2pm to a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A695 in Prudhoe.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance, specialist paramedic, one vehicle from our Hazardous Area Response Team, a clinical team leader and requested supported from the Great North Air Ambulance.

"One patient was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary by road, with a doctor on board."
