Two men led officers on a pursuit of more than 10 miles along three motorways before being brought to a sudden halt. Police were alerted to reports of an Iveco box van on false plates at the Poplar 2000 services in Lymm, Cheshire, at 10.50pm on Tuesday (February 21).
Officers were quickly deployed to the scene and confirmed the vehicle was using cloned plates. They began to pursue the Iveco, which was driven on the M56 before heading north on the M6 and eastbound on the M62 towards Manchester.
The van was eventually brought to a standstill after officers used a tactical stop between junctions 11 at Birchwood and 12 at Eccles. Both occupants, aged 27 and 29, were removed from the vehicle.
They were arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified, theft of a motor vehicle and driving under false plates. Both men have since been released on bail until April 3, when they are due to report back to police.
Josh Rimmer, of the Area Investigation Team North at Cheshire Police, said: “Thanks to the work of our quick-thinking officers, two disqualified drivers have been taken off the road and will be held accountable for their actions. I also hope that this acts as a clear indication toward any criminals who intend target Lymm as well as wider Cheshire.
“It is a warning, a promise, that our officers will be watching the roads for you and that we will catch you.”
