Driver killed and 13 Danish tourists hurt in bus crash on way to full moon party in Thailand

More than a dozen Danish tourists in Thailand were injured after a tour bus lost control and crashed off a hillside as it was driven to a full moon party.

The male driver, 50, died in hospital following the smash late on Thursday.

Officials said it happened in northern Mae Hong Son, a remote mountainous province.

Ten women and three men aged 19 to 25 were travelling on the bus when it deviated from a highway, the Bangkok Post reported.

The driver, believed to be unfamiliar with the terrain, lost control at a curve, causing the vehicle to veer off the road into a deep ravine.

District chief Anek Pantayom said 13 visitors from Denmark were being treated in hospital for injuries.

Four are said to have severe injuries, including broken bones.

The Danes were being driven to a full-moon party in Pai, broadcaster ThaiPBS reported.

On its Facebook page, the Pai Samakkhi Karnkusol rescue foundation reported that the horror happened at 8.25pm.

In Pai, parties are often held for foreign tourists, prompting transport firms to increase the number of vans.

In December, a bus accident killed 14 and injured 20.
