A leading bus firm has launched a recruitment drive following a British delivery giant going bust – leaving thousands out of a job.
Stagecoach West Scotland is offering interviews to staff affected by the recent closure of delivery firm Tuffnells, where over 2,000 jobs are to be lost.
Tuffnells Parcels Express went into administration on Monday, closing all its transport hubs and depots.
The majority of the Sheffield-based firm's 2,200 employees will be made redundant – with just 128 staff being retained. The company appointed administrators after failing to secure funding in recent weeks.
Rick Harrison, managing director at Interpath Advisory and joint administrator, said: “Unfortunately, the highly competitive nature of the UK parcel delivery market, coupled with significant inflation across the company’s fixed cost base in recent times, has resulted in it experiencing intense pressure on cashflow.”
Stagecoach has now announced that bus driver vacancies are available for immediate start at its Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire and Dumfries, Dumfriesshire depots, as well as vacancies within Ayr, Kilmarnock and Ardrossan depots.
Driver roles are available for both existing PCV license holders and those looking to retrain as a bus driver with a guaranteed 39 contracted hours per week.
Training is paid for and new recruits will earn from day one.
