Driver has lucky escape after car gets stuck on Scots beach during high tide

A driver has had a lucky escape after their car got stuck on a beach in the Outer Hebrides during high tide.

A photo of the stranded vehicle, which was shared on social media, shows a black Audi with its wheels completely sunk into the sand at Port Stoth in Ness.

Shallow water seems to be surrounding the motor, which is dangerously close to the shoreline, and has presumably been abandoned by its owner.

The sand appears to be unable to withhold the weight of the vehicle, which ran the risk of being flooded.

Thankfully, a local crofter came to the rescue and removed the car with a tractor before the next tide moved in.

No-one was injured in the incident.

Since the frightening event, HM Coastguard - Western Isles, Skye and Lochabers have issued a stern warning to those tempted to take their car onto beaches and other unpredictable terrain.

A spokesperson for the agency said: "The Outer Hebrides is renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches and bays.

"While most are safe and firm to walk on, sand is often soft and unable to support the weight of vehicles.

"The owner of this car which was stuck at Port Stoth in Ness was lucky that the tide didn’t flood the car and a local crofter was able to remove it with a tractor before the next tide.

"We know the beaches are stunning so please help us to keep them that way by being safe and not risking your safety driving onto unstable sands."
