A garden wall was left damaged after a car crashed into it before the driver and passenger fled.
Northumbria Police attended the scene on Hylton Castle Road in Sunderland on Sunday just after 7pm following reports that a car had collided with the wall. Officers found an abandoned car at the scene with the driver having seemingly run off.
The passenger in the vehicle also fled the scene. An investigation into the incident has now been launched by the force.

On Monday morning, the scene was secured with visible damage to the wall, with large sections destroyed in the collision. Barriers have been put in place around parts of the property.
As yet, the driver and passenger of the vehicle have not been located and officers have asked anyone with information or footage to come forward.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 7.05pm yesterday (Sunday), we received a report of a one vehicle collision on Hylton Castle Road. It was reported that a car collided with a wall before the driver and passenger left on foot, abandoning the car.
“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage, who has not yet spoken to officers, is asked to call 101 or visit the ‘Tell us Something’ section of our website, quoting log NP-20220522-0988.”
