Driver flees scene after car collides with traffic lights on Quayside

Traffic was brought to a standstill on the Quayside on Thursday morning after a car collided with a set of traffic lights.

Police attended the incident on the B1600 just near Newcastle Law Courts and found a silver Toyota had collided with the traffic lights. The driver of the vehicle could not be found at the scene but was located later at the RVI being treated for minor injuries.

Nearby barriers were damaged and both the car and the traffic lights are being recovered. The road has now re-opened.
