Traffic was brought to a standstill on the Quayside on Thursday morning after a car collided with a set of traffic lights.
Police attended the incident on the B1600 just near Newcastle Law Courts and found a silver Toyota had collided with the traffic lights. The driver of the vehicle could not be found at the scene but was located later at the RVI being treated for minor injuries.
Nearby barriers were damaged and both the car and the traffic lights are being recovered. The road has now re-opened.

There have been no arrests in connection with the incident at this time.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At around 6.35am this morning (Thursday) police received a report of a one-vehicle collision on Newcastle Quayside.
"Officers attended the scene where a silver Toyota had collided with a set of traffic lights.
"The driver was not at the scene but was later located at the RVI where he is receiving treatment for minor injuries.
"The car and lights are currently being recovered and the road remains open."
