A man in his 60s has died after a horror crash on a notorioisly dangerous road in the Highlands. Emergency services raced to the A9, near Kingussie, at around 6.45pm yesterday following a three-vehicle smash.
A silver Ford C-Max travelling south on the single carriageway was involved in a collision with two vehicles travelling north; a dark blue Renault Captur and a white Mercedes Sprinter van, towing a trailer carrying a small tractor. The driver of the Ford, a 64-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The 41-year-old male driver of the van and 20-year-old male passenger were checked over by paramedics. The 61-year-old female driver of the Renault and 79-year-old male passenger were also treated at the scene.
The road, which is one of Scotland's most dangerous, was locked while cops launched a probe into the horror smash. The A9 was clased for almost 10 hours, only re-opening at around 4am on Thursday.
The force have urged any witnesses to get in touch. Highlands and Islands Road Policing Sergeant Alasdair MacKay said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this difficult time.
“As we continue our enquiries into the circumstances I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened, or who has relevant dash cam footage of the area at the time, to contact us.”
Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 2835 of October 12, 2022.
