Driver dies after incident on M8 near Glasgow airport

An investigation has been launched after a motorist died during an incident along the M8 this morning.

Emergency crews raced to the scene at Junction 27 near Hillington, Glasgow at 4.20am today.

The stretch of the motorway was shut down for several hours, resulting in long tailbacks for drivers.

Police have confirmed that a 56-year-old man has died following the event.

While his death is not being treated as suspicious, officers are appealing for any information to establish the full circumstances.

In particular, they are asking for anybody with dash-cam footage to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The M8 at J27 westbound was closed this morning as officers dealt with the sudden death of a 56-year-old man.

"Police received the call around at 4.20am on Monday, May 16.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Those with information are urged to contact Police Scotland by calling 101, quoting incident number 0325 of May 16.
