Driver 'clocked doing 97mph while under influence of cannabis' on Scots A road

A driver has been caught speeding at almost 100mph while under the influence of cannabis on the A1, according to police.

Officers from Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit (RPU) stopped the Vauxhall Corsa after recording it travelling at excessive speeds yesterday.

The driver was stopped in Dalkeith in Midlothian before he was tested for drugs.

Results showed the motorist had tested positive for cannabis and they were also driving without an MOT.

The RPU tweeted images drugs test and speed checker at 97mph, with a statement saying: "Dalkeith Road Policing were on patrol on the A1 yesterday when this car caught their eye.

"Recorded travelling at 97mph, and if that wasn't bad enough, it was found to have no MOT, and the driver gave a positive drugs test for cannabis."

Officers investigating the incident confirmed the driver, a 34-year-old man, was arrested in connection with alleged road traffic offences.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers stopped the car travelling southbound around 5pm between Haddington and Dunbar. A 34-year-old man, the driver, was arrested in connection."
