A drive-thru McDonald’s and petrol station could be opening near a busy motorway junction soon - with the creation of 145 jobs.
Leeds-based Impero (Development Management) Ltd has applied to build the refuelling facility with charging bays and restaurant at The Woodyard on Weaver View in Runcorn. The site sits next to Clifton roundabout at junction 12 of the M56 and Weston Point Expressway in Runcorn.
An application submitted to Halton Borough Council said the project would feature four two-sided pump islands, electric vehicle charging points, parking, and a drive-thru fast food restaurant - revealed to be a McDonald’s. Impero’s design and access statement (DAS) said the 7,560 sq ft, single storey scheme would create 145 jobs, with 25 of those in the petrol station and 120 in the drive-thru.

The DAS noted that in time the premises will move away from traditional fuel towards hosting more electric charging points and possibly hydrogen fuel pumps.
Authors of the report described the site in its existing form as “partly developed” as a woodyard and storage with the remainder occupied by farmland.
Also included in the documents filed to Halton Council was a “litter patrol plan”, which outlined arrangements for managers to survey the area and for staff to be scheduled for litter patrols.
The DAS said the McDonald’s would have a “sleek modern design” with a “contemporary quality”, featuring timber effect and dark grey cladding, stone effect panels, dark grey engineering brick and white canopies.
It said: “Both buildings have been designed to avoid the traditionally harsh aesthetic of other earlier roadside use designs.
“These current designs fit into the setting in a much more naturalistic way, creating an inviting place to spend some time.”
Runcorn has an existing McDonald’s drive-thru on West Lane in the east of the town.
Public consultation is open until February 9 with the council aiming to decide the matter by around March 13.
