Drimnagh tenants' exclusion from parking and communal amenities 'unacceptable segregation'

A local councillor has hit out at the "unacceptable segregation and exclusion" of tenants from using communal amenities at an apartments complex in Drimnagh.

Sinn Fein rep Daithí Doolan said that the exclusion of tenants from communal amenities in the Davitt Road in Drimnagh "must end immediately". He said that the tenants are "furious at the fact they can not access car parking, bicycle lock up, the gym or the promised indoor play area".

He added: "Meanwhile tenants renting privately have access to all the amenities in the complex. This segregation is wrong."

Cllr Doolan said that this "further divides communities", and he added that it and "flies the face of Dublin City Council's own City Development Plan" and their Stratedgy for Housing People with Disabilities.

He said: "Families are forced to park their cars on the street. Which is adding to an already difficult situation for Dublin Bus drivers in Drimnagh.

"Yet ironically I saw dozens of empty car parking spaces in the apartment complex which could easily be given to these residents."

Cllr Doolan added that social segregation is a "dangerous precedent" and confirmed that he is tabling an emergency motion at Monday's City Council meeting to urge Dublin City Council to address this social exclusion as a matter of urgency.
