The Boston Celtics recently signed Drew Peterson to a two-way contract after waiving Nathan Knight. Peterson had been impressing in the G-League with Sioux Falls. However, his opportunity with the Celtics didn’t come without its challenges, most notably how to get his clothes from Dakota to Boston while also being present with his new team.
That’s where Peterson’s mom, Stacey, came to the rescue. Upon finding out Drew had been given an opportunity in Boston, she flew from her home near Chicago all the way to Dakota, where she loaded a van full of her son’s belongings and began the eight-hour drive to Boston, as reported by Adam Himmeslbach of The Boston Globe.
“There was obviously no time to get back to Sioux Falls to retrieve his other belongings, so his mother Stacey helped take care of that,” Himmelsbach reported. “She flew from her family’s home near Chicago to Sioux Falls, loaded a rental car with as many of her son’s things as she could fit, and then made the nearly eight-hour drive back to Chicago.”
Peterson has already begun to make his presence felt with his new team.

During the Celtics’ blowout win over the LA Clippers on December 23, Peterson checked into the game for the final 2:33 of the contest, where he knocked down his only shot and impressed with his passing to create an assist for Lamar Stevens.
Under Brad Stevens, the Celtics have begun finding impactful talent via their G-League system, and there appears to be a direct route to NBA playing time. Sam Hauser and Luke Kornet both graduated from the Maine Celtics to the primary roster, and Neemias Queta appears to be next in line. As such, Peterson will likely believe he can also follow a similar trajectory.
