With Geno Smith on the sideline for Monday’s clash against the Eagles, the Seahawks turned to Drew Lock with their season on the line.
The 27-year-old delivered in a big way during what was just his second start of the season, as he led Seattle to an improbable comeback win, thanks to a sensational last-minute, 92-yard scoring drive.
After the game, Lock revealed to reporters the message of inspiration he received from Smith, who had been the backup quarterback’s most dedicated supporter throughout the evening.
“You’re the best player on the field! You are going to drive us down this field! You are going to get this done!” Lock told reporters of what Smith said to him, via Gregg Bell of The News Tribune.
Trailing 17–13, Lock connected with DK Metcalf for a pair of big gains, before finding rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for the go-ahead touchdown.
After the score, Lock and Smith could be seen excitedly gesturing to one another in celebration.

Although Smith was active for Monday’s game, he did not feature in the game while nursing a groin injury. Lock started his second consecutive game, lifting Seattle to a much-needed win, improving the team to 7–7 as they fight for a playoff berth.
Smith showcased why he’s such a highly regarded teammate across the league, offering unwavering support to Lock during arguably the biggest moment of his career.
