With their backs against the wall, the Seattle Seahawks responded in a big way on Monday night.
As Geno Smith continues to nurse a groin injury, backup Drew Lock led Seattle to a stunning comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles. It featured an incredible 92-yard touchdown drive led by Lock in the final moments that effectively saved Seattle’s season. And after Lock drove a dagger into the Eagles’ hearts, he and Smith shared a wholesome on-field moment together.
On Wednesday, Lock revealed that Smith — ever the supportive teammate — had some very encouraging comments for Lock before he took the field for that fateful drive:

This is what it’s all about, folks. Rather than take Lock playing well personally — as if he’s a threat to his job — Smith instead uplifted his backup. Why? Because Smith was once in Lock’s shoes as a backup simply trying to revitalize his NFL career. He knows what that battle is like better than anyone and can completely relate to it.
And who knows? Maybe Lock will one day get that opportunity just like Smith did.
