The New York Giants signed Drew Lock during NFL free agency, giving them a quarterback to compete with Daniel Jones this season. The Seattle Seahawks wanted to bring Lock back, but general manager John Schneider claimed that the Giants promised Lock the opportunity to compete for the starting job in 2024.
However, Lock and the Giants maintain that the team made no such assurances to Lock before agreeing to the deal. While meeting with the New York media for the first time, Lock stood behind Jones as the starter for next season.
“Daniel Jones is the starter of this team,” Lock said, via The Athletic’s Dan Duggan. “That's been conveyed to me."

Lock has been in the league for five years, starting 21 games for the Denver Broncos before being traded to Seattle in the Russell Wilson deal. While with the Seahawks, Lock served as Geno Smith’s backup, receiving just two starts, and four games played overall, over two seasons.
At 27 years old, Lock is still young enough where a team could see value in starting him at quarterback, hoping some of his upside comes through.
New York enters next season in a tricky place at the position, as Jones is recovering from a torn ACL while in the second year of a massive contract. Yet, the Giants seem like they may be done with Jones, not only adding Lock but also potentially a rookie quarterback in this year’s draft.
