Drew Barrymore has admitted that she hasn't been in an 'intimate' relationship since 2016 when she split with her ex Will Kopelman.
The Hollywood star has opened up on her blog about navigating life as a single mum and how she has changed her attitude towards sex since her split.
Drew, 48, addressed how her "view on sex has truly changed," as she shared a picture of herself holding up her laptop and inviting her fans to read a "very personal story."
Writing on The Drew Barrymore Show blog page she shared her thoughts on the delicate subject matter.
She posted: "At nearly 48 I have very different feelings about intimacy than I did growing up. I did not have role model parents and I engaged with people in grown-up ways since a tender age!"
Drew then outlined how she had previously used sex in a way where she was "looking for companionship, validation. excitement, pleasure, hedonism, fun and adventure."
The mum of two also admitted that while she doesn't have a "time machine" to make changes she looks at her past through "a positive lens."
She explained: "After two kids and a separation from their father that has made me cautious, I have had the pleasure of shifting my focus when it comes to love for myself and my two daughters. I know that does not include a man nor has it for a while.
Drew then credited her sex therapist for helping her to understand that the act of sex and emotional intimacy are not synonymous.
She continued: "Sex is not love! It is the expression of love. I have searched my whole life to have words like that to help me understand the difference and now, thanks to him, I do. And since entering life as a single mom, I have not been able to have an intimate relationship."
Drew then noted that life without sex is easy for her and she hasn't prioritised finding a new relationship since her split with Will.
She added: "I’m not a person who needs sex and has to go out there and engage with people on that level. I am someone who is deeply committed to fostering how young girls, my daughters, and myself as a woman, are supposed to function in this world!
"A relationship with a man has not been top of mind for me for a very long time. Some people can get out of a marriage or relationship and in the near future find themselves in another relationship. There is nothing wrong with that! Not one bit. I do not judge! I celebrate their journey!"
Last month Drew revealed that she could go "years" without having sex when she discovered that actor Andrew Garfield had sworn off sex for six months for his part in Martin Scorsese movie Silence where he plays a catholic priest.
