A woman has been taken to hospital after being attacked by a tiger at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast.
The employee, who was in her 30s, was working with the tiger just after 9am on Monday when it attacked, leaving her with several deep cuts on her arm and shoulder. The woman was attended to by the Queensland Ambulance Service and rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
A spokesperson for Dreamworld confirmed the incident in a statement.
“Dreamworld acknowledges an incident that occurred involving one of the park’s tigers and a trained tiger handler,” the spokesperson said, per Nine News.
“The handler sustained injuries to their arm and was attended to by Queensland Ambulance Service.
“Dreamworld’s immediate focus is on the support of the team member. This was an isolated and rare incident, and we will conduct a thorough review accordingly.”
Dreamworld is a theme park in Queensland which features a tiger enclosure called Tiger Island. It is currently home to nine Sumatran and Bengal tigers.
The woman’s identity is not currently known.
