By now it’s well known that the hospitality industry — including pubs and restaurants, music venues and nightclubs — has been struggling since before the pandemic. It’s a topic that has come up time and time again in the news, but it’s also something people are witnessing with their own eyes, with pubs closing at an alarming rate. It’s something I pay particularly close attention to, as I own and operate the Drapers Arms, a pub in Islington.
The root cause of the industry’s travails is that people are struggling with the consequences of a decade of economic mismanagement and the stupidity of Brexit. People cannot afford to treat themselves as often to going out.
