North East entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies has warned of hoaxers impersonating her on social media.
Fake accounts purporting to be the Crafter’s Companion founder have appeared on Facebook, attempting to lure in fans through competitions claiming to offer cash prizes. The hoax profiles include photos, posts and videos that appear to have been uploaded by Ms Davies, but then post competitions which claim to select winners for prizes. Messages have also been sent to some of the supposed winners asking them for credit card details.
Following intervention by BusinessLive, Meta confirmed that two accounts had been taken down for impersonation. In a warning to her followers on social media, Ms Davies, said: “Unfortunately, it has come to my attention over the last few days that some fake accounts have appeared pretending to be me here on Facebook.

"They are posting fake competitions with the lure of CASH prizes to trick users into clicking links and providing personal details or replying to comments directing you to the competition posts. The thing to look out for is the name of this profile ‘Sara’Davies’ and not my official ‘Sara Davies’.
“If you ever get suspicious contact attempts, friend requests, messages or mail from somebody you think might be pretending to be me that is not coming from the official account above, these will not be from me and I advise you to ignore or report these. Thank you to everyone who has let me know. Much love, Sara.”
Ms Davies starred in the last series of Strictly Come Dancing and is also an experienced TV presenter, having showcased her company’s products on crafting and shopping channels for many years.
Last month she announced she will be adding to her presenting CV, which includes guest presenting the Morning Live show on BBC One, with a new BBC series with the working title Master of Ceremonies. The show will see Ms Davies, First Dates star Fred Sirieix and wedding industry expert Raj Somaiya oversee eight wedding planners compete to become the best wedding expert, as they plan dream weddings for couples.
After two hoax accounts were removed, Ms Davies told the Journal: “My message to any of my lovely followers is to please be super careful online. I would never post or directly message someone asking for personal details so if you do appear to receive a message from someone that looks like me, it’s likely to be a scam account. If you see this online, reporting the content and the accounts will help to have them disabled.
