The Las Vegas Raiders wanted to add some more weapons to surround new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with, and they get that here in Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer.
Mayer has been ultra-productive for Notre Dame over the last two seasons, proving himself to be one of the top tight ends in the country. During that time, Mayer managed to put up 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns on 138 receptions for the Golden Domers.
It is easy to see how someone who is compared to Rob Gronkowski will fit into Josh McDaniels’ offense, and Mayer will likely fill a similar role. A big, athletic mover who can steal yards after the catch and reliably block out defenders through contact, Mayer is set up for success in Vegas.
