Draft Network believes Bears’ Matt Eberflus will be first head coach fired this year

It’s been a nightmare of a start for the Chicago Bears, who are 0-3 and riding an active 13-game losing streak.

For Matt Eberflus, the start to his Bears tenure couldn’t have started worse. He’s 3-17 as the head coach, including the franchise-worst losing streak that’s going on a full calendar year. Not to mention, he’s getting close — or already has — to losing the locker room as the losses continue to mount.

As you can imagine, Eberflus is a favorite to be the first head coaches fired this season, along with Las Vegas’ Josh McDaniels and Washington’s Ron Rivera.

But The Draft Network’s Justin Melo believes that Eberflus should — and will — be the first head coach to be fired this season.

Chicago is an unserious franchise right now. The Bears, who finished with the worst overall record during the 2022 campaign, were expected to showcase improvement. Through three contests, the Bears appear headed for a second consecutive bottom-of-the-league finish. Bears head coach Matt Eberflus doesn’t appear capable of improving Chicago’s beloved football team. Eberflus’ record now sits at 3-17.

His team looked totally unprepared to play the Super Bowl defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3. The Bears were trailing 34-0 at halftime. There was also the confusing and controversial dismissal of defensive coordinator Alan Williams. Whatever is happening in Chicago, Eberflus should be the first to fall on the sword.

The Bears have never fired a head coach midseason, and it’s unlikely that’ll change this year. But if things continue to spiral out of control — including perhaps getting embarrassed against the winless Denver Broncos — that’s something that might change.
