The Seattle Seahawks have completed their tour of the top quarterback prospects in the 2023 NFL draft. The team sent a front office contingent to watch Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Will Levis and Anthony Richardson throw at their respective pro days and shared selfies on social media with each.
You can draw your own conclusions from that – as Doug Farrar at Touchdown Wire did – ranking their interest in each QB prospect by how excited Pete Carroll looked in each of the photos. The salient point is that Seattle is seriously interested in drafting a quarterback this year – enough so that there’s speculation they could even move up from the No. 5 overall spot to get one of them.
First, there’s this nugget from Tony Pauline at Pro Football Network:
“Speculation from league insiders during Florida’s pro day is the Seattle Seahawks could be the team that leapfrogs the Indianapolis Colts and trades up with the Arizona Cardinals to secure Richardson.”
Then there’s also this from Vic Tafur at the Athletic:
“The buzz is that the Seahawks will jump from No. 5 to No. 3 to grab either Richardson or Levis, as Stroud and Young are expected to go 1-2. The Cardinals can move down to No. 5 and still get the top defensive player…”
Interesting stuff and our gut says that their chemistry with Richardson is legitimate. Then again, at this point in the draft process it’s difficult to take any of this too seriously. Remember, at this time last year all indications were that the Seahawks desperately wanted to draft Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder, which turned out to be nothing but an elaborate smokescreen.
Most of all, it seems unlikely Arizona would be in a hurry to help a division rival land a potential franchise quarterback. However, the Cards have a plethora of roster holes to fill and trading down is their best bet to begin addressing them. If the Seahawks make the right offer anything is possible, but for now we’re putting this in the probably-not-happening category.
