Dr Michael Mosley says resistance training can add years to your life

Dr Michael Mosley says that resistance training is 'something we should all do', citing how your 'muscles start to decline after the age of 30'. Speaking on his Just One Thing podcast, in an episode titled Stay young, the TV doctor looked at how strength training can help your body stay young on a cellular level as you age.

He said: "Studies have shown that in just 12 weeks you can increase your muscle mass by up to 10 percent - and your strength by up to 150 percent. This in turn can impact your whole body. For a start, it can give your brain a boost.

"A review of dozens of studies on the effect of exercise on the over 50s has shown that both aerobic and resistance training are good for the brain, but research has found that resistance training was especially good on memory and executive function, which improves things like problem solving."
