A DPD distribution centre in Athlone Co. Westmeath was evacuated this afternoon after the discovery of a suspicious item.
The Army’s explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called to the centre after the item was found by staff during a routine security and customs check.
Staff were removed from the premises, and work at the facility was suspended for an hour and a half.

Operations have since resumed.
A spokesperson for the Army confirmed that forces attended the scene where they confirmed that there was no threat as the item was not viable.
The news comes after the Army EOD team attended the same facility three months ago following the discovery of historical items during a routine search.
Again after investigation, it was determined that the item was not viable.
