'DPD driver left me with huge bruises after refusing to take IKEA parcels upstairs'

A woman claims a delivery driver left her with severe bruising and refused to take her parcels up to her flat.

Aki Lee alleges the DPD employee shoved a metal trolley into her legs and refused to bring two large furniture deliveries up to her flat as agreed with IKEA - and instead said he would leave them in the lobby.

In a fit of anger, the 32-year-old said she told him to take the parcels back with him, but then changed her mind and asked for them back.

She claims the driver appeared to be in a rush and pushed her away multiple times while her leg was caught between the bars of his metal trolley.

DPD has confirmed it is currently carrying out an investigation, with the alleged incident having also been reported to police.

Aki's husband had initially met the driver when he arrived with the delivery outside their building in Liverpool on April 11.

The courier took them to the lobby using his trolley but allegedly said he wouldn't take them to the couple's door.

Aki said they were "confused" as IKEA had said parcels will be delivered to a room of their choosing.

She told the Liverpool Echo: "I asked if we could at least borrow the metal trolley for us to push the parcels to our flat.

"He said that was not possible and said he has to leave the parcels at the lobby and not to the flat.

"I was a bit confused because when we shopped at the store it said the delivery could be sent to a room of our choice and I was quite angry because they were two super huge parcels.

"The furniture was not small everyday parcels where we would take it ourselves.

"I told him we would have to call the retailer and have my husband call DPD."

Aki said one of the parcels was inside the lobby and the other leaning on the door.

She claims she blocked the one at the door with her body so the delivery driver could not take it back while she tried calling the store.

She believes the delivery driver was "in a rush" and claims he then pushed her.

Aki said in her anger she told the delivery driver to take the parcel back, before changing her mind and rushing out to the driver.

She said the delivery driver's metal trolley was on the floor and claims she didn't realise her legs were in between the metal bar.

She alleges the delivery driver then hit her legs numerous times with the trolley.

She explained: "While my husband was looking for the number to call DPD he suddenly took the metal trolley above the ground and hit it against my leg."

Photos show huge bruises on Aki's legs which she described as "very painful".

She added she was "very upset" following the alleged incident.

She said: "I felt his actions were very intrusive and that's why I wanted to let him go but we really needed that parcel and that's why I came out and told him to wait for us."

A spokesperson for DPD said they were not aware of these allegations and cannot verify the claims. They added they are waiting to carry out a full investigation after interviewing the driver in question.

In a statement a spokesperson for the company said: "We were not previously made aware of these allegations, dating back to April 11. We therefore cannot verify the allegations currently as we are waiting to interview the driver and carry out a full investigation."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said they did receive a report of an alleged assault.

The said: "We can confirm we received a report of an assault in Liverpool City Centre on Tuesday, April 11. At around 2.45pm, it was reported that a woman had been pushed by a man earlier that afternoon and she had sustained a leg injury.

"Our enquiries are ongoing into this incident. If you have any information, DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 23000306553."
