The District Planning Committee (DPC) has decided to seek more government assistance for the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission project, which will supply drinking water through pipelines to all households in the local bodies. On Monday, the meeting assessed that the share from the local body and that of the consumer would not be enough to raise the amount for the implementation of the project and this would require more government assistance. The committee also suggested that the Kerala Water Authority be made responsible for the repair work once the pipeline work was completed. The committee directed that the local bodies prepare an estimate of construction work for 2022-23 by July. During the last financial year, the local bodies in the district had utilised 96.6% of the funds for agriculture, 91.99% for animal husbandry and 96.59% for the dairy sector. The committee lauded the local bodies for spending more. The “Freshwater Navakeralam” campaign would be conducted in the district as part of the complete water sanitation campaign 2022. For this, a hygiene meeting would be held in all the wards by April 25. DPC Chairperson and District Panchayat President P.P. Divya presided over the function. V. Sivadasan, MP; Mayor T.O. Mohanan; District Panchayat Vice President Binoy Kurian; District Collector S. Chandrasekhar; Planning Officer K. Prakashan; committee members, people’s representatives and officials were present at the meeting.
