PLANS have been revealed for 35 new houses to be built on the site of a former Angus poultry factory.
The site, which sits at the corner of Woodside Road and Dundee Street, was operated for many years by Mitchell of Letham.
It was then sold to the 2 Sisters food group and was subsequently bought by One Stop Halal, but was closed in 2015 as part of a strategic review.
The factory was recently demolished.
A planning in principle application has now been submitted to the local authority seeking to build 35 residential dwellings on the brownfield site.
Prospect Estates Ltd are behind the plans.
Draft designs submitted with the application show a mix of two and three-bed houses.
An accompanying planning statement outlines that the developers are looking to create a “viable and quality” development in the village.
The planning statement adds: “These proposals are designed to complement the wider council’s vision to create a rural hub for the village.
“The site was a former vacant factory. It has now been demolished and cleared.
“It has been highly marketed and is no interest for commercial use.
“Therefore, in order to regenerate the site, it is proposed to be a residential development.
It added: “The development will allow for sustainable rural development to occur.
“A critical mass of population is vital in order to make sure shops and services and local authorities services are viable and can operate sufficiently.
“A housing development will allow new residents to live in the village.”
The application will be considered by Angus Council in due course.
