More than 30 horses and their riders took to the road in Dinas Powys to raise awareness of safe driving habits around the animals. The meet-up was one of many rides that haven taken place all around the UK. With horse riders in Wales often seen wearing a vest that urges drivers to slow down when passing, the safety of those enjoying their hobby can be at risk if someone were to drive past too fast or hit the rider and their horse.
Sian Vesey, who attended the walk that took place in Dinas Powys, said in a heartfelt Facebook post that her daughter lost her horse on the roads in the area. Joined by dozens of riders and supporters, the event proved to be a huge success with more planned for the future.
"Just wanted to say a huge thank you to the patient supportive drivers that the 33 impeccably behaved horses encountered on our Pass Wide and Slow ride today. The ride is held throughout the country and myself and my daughter, who lost her pony on the roads of Dinas Powys, were so proud to take part in our local one," she wrote.

Another person wrote: "I think most drivers are pretty good. A month ago, I happened to be going along Sully Road, and a young lady was having to walk her horse back to Downs-Side Riding and Livery Centre - she appeared at about the junction with Cross-Common Road and was clearly worried - as I was driving the first car down the road. I held back, gave her plenty of room and also positioned myself so that any car behind me couldn't be silly. It must have seemed a long walk for the young rider, but I, for one, am courteous to horse riders."
