Dozens of firms have cut ties with Russia in the past week

Since Vladimir Putin launched an invasion of Ukraine many retailers have been cutting ties with Russia in an act of solidarity. This includes a number of UK energy companies such as BP and Shell. British Gas owner Centrica has decided to follow suit and will end all gas supply agreements with Russia.

Chris O'Shea, chief executive officer of Centrica, said: "We are shocked by the events unfolding in Ukraine and the needless loss of lives. We intend to exit our gas supply agreements with Russian counterparts, principally Gazprom, as a matter of urgency. We are working through the details of how best to do this. Additionally we will ensure we are compliant with all relevant sanctions."

Shell called Russia's invasion of Ukraine "senseless" and announced it was selling its stake in all joint ventures with Gazprom. It comes after BP said it would exit its shareholding with Rosneft.
