Downton Abbey's Laura Carmichael secretly welcomes baby with her co-star Michael C Fox

Downton Abbey star Laura Carmichael has welcomed a baby with her co-star Michael C Fox.

And in true Downton fashion it's a scandalous case of upstairs-downstairs as the 35-year-old actress plays Lady Edith Crawley while Michael, 33, who plays illiterate footman Andy Parker.

The happy couple began dating in 2016 and welcomed their son Luca in March last year.

They live together in North London and enjoyed some time off before the release of the movie spin-off of the period drama, Downton Abbey: A New Era.

“Laura and Michael absolutely love being parents and were grateful to have some time away from the limelight to enjoy the moment," a source told the Sun on Sunday.

“Laura’s taken motherhood in her stride and it’s added another string to her bow.”

Earlier this week, the new mum stole the show as the stars of Downton Abbey attended the A New Era film premiere in London on Monday evening.

Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery and Joanne Froggatt looked every inch the leading ladies as they joined the cast for the screening of the sequel which fans have been eagerly waiting for since the 2019 film.

Laura looked glamorous in a one-shoulder mini-dress with a dramatic train and bow as she posed on the red carpet.

The Downton Abbey: A New Era sequel will see the famous Crawley family take a surprise trip to the French Riviera after learning that family matriarch Dowager Countess Violet has inherited a villa from a former lover.

The upcoming sequel will see the return of the much loved cast including Hugh Bonneville and Penelope Wilton.

A New Era will see a slew of new faces join the star-studded cast, including Dominic West and Hugh Dancy.

The film, written by Julian Fellowes, takes the familiar faces to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess's newly inherited villa as they try to escape a film crew at Downton.

A film director visits Downton with the hopes of making a “talking picture”, a newly discovered craze in the 1920s.

A New Era will see the debut of Laura Haddock as a glamorous 1920s film star, with the actress seeming unimpressed by the iconic manor in the much-anticipated sequel.

The White Lines star transforms into period star Myrna Dalgleish who arrives at the Crawley household as it prepares to become the set for a Hollywood film.

A moustachioed Dominic West plays an 1920s Hollywood actor, becoming a heartthrob among the staff.

Widower Tom Branson will finally discover happiness again following the death of his wife Sybil years earlier, as he ties the knot with maid Lucy Smith (Tuppence Middleton) who he met in the first film.

All of Downton's beloved staff are expected to appear in the film, including Anna, Thomas, Elsie Hughes (Phyllis Logan), young Daisy and John Bates (Brendan Coyle).

Downton Abbey: A New Era will be released in the UK on Friday, April 29, and in the US on Friday, May 20.
