Video footage has captured the moment that world-famous heavy metal band Metallica was heard in Stapleford, as they took to the stage at Download Festival. The American heavy metal band headlined the first night of the annual rock festival at Donington Park, on the Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire border, as the event celebrates its 20th year.
For the first time ever, the festival has been spread across four days - taking place from Thursday, June 8, to Sunday, June 11. Metallica headlined Thursday night - but it seems it wasn't just those with a ticket who got to experience the show.
In video footage captured by a Stapleford resident living more than 11 miles from the festival, rumblings of Metallica's music can be heard. According to residents in the area, the sound could heard in the evening until around 10.30pm - with the sounds fading in and out.
According to Derbyshire Live, a new sound system could be the reason why the sound travelled so far. It could be the result of the new "gargantuan" sound system.
A press release published by Meyer Sound on Wednesday (June 7) explains that the ground-breaking new production comprises a staggering 288 loudspeakers in an attempt by Metallica's creative director Dan Braun to "immerse the entire audience".
Dan Braun said: "The clarity of the system is breath-taking, and that combined with Bob McCarthy’s brilliant design is giving us a show that sounds spectacular.
"I told Meyer Sound that my goal was to have full stereo sound at every point with no overlap, from the centre pit to the nosebleed seats. We wanted everybody to hear the band as if with nearfield monitors, and I think we’ve come closer to that than ever before in a concert setting.”
Other acts set to take to the stage over the weekend include Bring Me The Horizon, Evanescence and Architects.
