Download Festival 2022 weather forecast in full as sun and rain given out for Castle Donington

Anyone wanting to mud wrestle or mud-slide at the annual Download Festival this weekend could be in for disappointment because surprisingly the weather is currently forecast to be fairly sunny - in stark contrast to some previous Donington Park festivals, in 2016 and 2019, which led to it being labelled "Drownload".

But while there have been some scorching hot festivals since the event began in 2003, the 2022 festival may not match up to that either and instead we are looking at sunny spells on each of the three days with light to moderate breezes. However, there could be the odd shower popping up and the pollen count - for those with high fever - is going to be very high.

The appearance of sunshine also means some high UV levels so don't forget to slather on the sun cream if you don't want to get burnt. It does seem that the forecast is quite changeable over the three days and certainly people arriving on the campsite on Wednesday and Thursday may encounter cooler temperatures and some rain.

At the time of writing this was the forecast:

* Friday, June 10: Sunny intervals and a fresh breeze, temperature high of 21C and a low of 11C overnight

* Saturday, June 11: Sunny intervals and a moderate breeze, temperature high of 21C and a low of 11C overnight

* Sunday, June 12: Sunny intervals and a moderate breeze, temperature high of 19C and a low of 10C overnight

For those getting to the festival early, taking up the five-night camping option, temperatures are expected to reach highs of 19C on Wednesday, June 8, with sunny and cloudy spells predicted and outbreaks of rain. While Thursday, June 9, is given out as a largely cloudy day with sunny intervals and highs of 14C.

So for people anxious to see headliners Kiss on Friday night at about 9pm, the weather should be pleasantly warm at about 16C and sunny, while Saturday afternoon should be warm when Mastdon, Deftones and Megadeth strut their stuff ahead of headliners Iron Maiden.

An expected dip in the temperature on Sunday could mean it will be a few degrees chillier for the appearance of the last act of the weekend, Biffy Clyro. But ahead of them Korn, Steel Panther and The Darkness should be a lot of fun in the sun.

Around 85,000 fans are expected to descend on Donington Park this weekend for the first full festival since 2019, following the cancellation in 2020. There have been changes to the site layout and the organisers are hoping that fans find it easier to park, move around the site and also get less muddy in some areas with the introduction of hard standing in the Village.

Last year, a Government-sponsored pilot festival of 10,000 people took place featuring headliners Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, Enter Shikari and Bullet for My Valentine.
