Dow Jones Closes At Session Lows; Warren Buffet's Berkshire Near Buy Point; Pfizer, Caterpillar Report Earnings Tuesday

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended Monday's trading day at session lows, as other indexes did also.  The blue chip index lost 260 points and closed 0.7% lower.

The S&P 500 added to earlier losses, down by 1.3% at the close. The Nasdaq saw the greatest losses, dropping 1.9% at closing bell.

The small-cap Russell 2000 was down 1.1%. The Innovator IBD 50 ETF fell over 1.5% to 22.80.

Volume fell on the NYSE and on the Nasdaq compared with the same time on Friday, according to preliminary data.

Crude oil lost over 2% to trade at $77.80 a barrel. Bitcoin dropped more than 4% to $22,735. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose 3 basis points to 3.55%.

Dow Jones Stocks

In the Dow Jones index, Johnson & Johnson was the worst performer. The stock slid more than 3% to end the day. The stock is down for three consecutive days, its worst three-day stretch since July 2022.

A federal appeals court rejected the company's plans to put thousands of lawsuits over its talcum powder in bankruptcy court.

Pfizer, Caterpillar and McDonald's will report earnings Tuesday. Caterpillar is on the IBD Leaderboard. The stock is extended above a buy point of 238.

Also due on Tuesday are Advanced Micro Devices, General Motors, Allegro MicroSystems, homebuilder PulteGroup and Juniper Networks. Juniper is in a cup-with-handle base with an entry at 34.05.

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway is in a cup-with-handle base with a buy point of 321.42. Shares are pulling back in light volume as the stock tries to complete a shakeout before the next move. They have fallen below the 50-day line.

Shares of AMC gapped down over 9% while its new premium class "APE" notes are flying. APE notes are AMC's preferred equity units that the company issued last year. The movie theater is planning a capital restructuring of swapping equity for its debt. The company will hold a special meeting on March 14 to discuss the deal, a possible reverse stock split and other items, according to reports. The price of APE rose over 15% according to the Wall Street Journal.

Stocks Moving Today Outside Dow Jones

IBD Leaderboard and IBD 50 stock Axon is at its buy point of 193.95. Axon is today's IBD Stock Of The Day. Axon makes stun guns and related technologies.

Dow Jones energy leader Exxon Mobil has fallen below its buy point of 114.76. Earnings are due Tuesday. Its rival Chevron missed earnings last week.

Shoals is in consolidation but closed near its 50-day line, which has been a line of support since Jan. 19.

Atkor is in the buy zone from a cup-with-handle base, still above a buy point of 40.09.

SLB is above an entry at 56.14 despite volatile action in the past several sessions.

Phillips 66 is building the right side of a cup base with a buy point of 113.63 ahead of earnings on Tuesday.

Now tried to break out from a flat base with a buy point of 13.61. But shares faded below the entry.
