DOUGLAS Ross has blasted his own party as he hit out at new “ludicrous” travel proposals for Scottish football fans.
We previously told how many reacted with fury at new transport proposals put forward by the UK Government.
The guidelines focused on public service vehicles and set out a number of travel recommendations on game days.
These included buses not stopping at premises where alcohol is sold unless it is with a “substantial meal”.
Another guideline suggested buses should arrive no earlier than two hours before the match starts and not later than one hour before it begins.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Ross said: “These ludicrous plans are completely disproportionate.
“The proposals make no sense for the Scottish game and should be scrapped immediately. I’ve made that clear to the UK Government.”
Branch office boss Ross’s message appears to have the support of fellow Tory MP Andrew Bowie who reposted the message on his own social media account.
The SNP’s Westminster leader Stephen Flynn was also among those to hit out at the plans, describing them as “unworkable, unmanageable and unenforceable”.
Scottish Greens MSP Gillian Mackay meanwhile said the proposed restrictions are “out of touch”.
A consultation on the guidelines will remain open until November 24, 2023, and there are various ways to respond including by email or by post.
