Doug Pederson says Giants defense is similar to Chargers, Commanders

The New York Giants are coming into a road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with plenty of momentum after winning five of their first six games of 2022. For the Jaguars to get their first win of October, the team will have to crack a Giants defense that has allowed the seventh fewest points in the NFL.

Fortunately for the Jaguars, head coach Doug Pederson said the team can draw on experience from a couple previous opponents.

“You can look back earlier in the season, I think a little bit of the Washington [Commanders] game, even the [Los Angeles] Chargers game in there where they want to mix multiple personnel, play five man fronts, get after the passer, make you throw the football,” Pederson said of the Giants defense. “All those types of things, those are games that Trevor [Lawrence] can look at, we can look at and see what worked and try to use that this week.

“It’s going to take all 11, really, on offense. This team is playing well, 5-1, opportunistic, they’re creating some takeaways and key moments, especially late in the fourth quarter. Look at last week and what they did to Baltimore. They’re playing well and playing with a lot of confidence.”

The Giants trailed the Ravens, 20-10, in the latter half of the fourth quarter in Week 6. New York scored a touchdown with about six minutes left to cut Baltimore’s lead to three, then intercepted Lamar Jackson with just under three minutes left.

After scoring a go-ahead touchdown after the two-minute warning, the Giants iced the game with a Kayvon Thibodeaux sack that caused a fumble that was recovered by Leonard Williams.

The Jaguars scored at least 21 points in five of six games this season, but were held to just six by the Houston Texans in Week 5. Jacksonville scored 22 against the Commanders and 38 against the Chargers.
