Doug Pederson: Jaguars DE Tyler Lacy ‘has really emerged’

The Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line may be in a tough spot with DaVon Hamilton recovering from a “non-football related medical issue” in his back. The good news, though, is that rookie defensive lineman Tyler Lacy may be able to pick up some of the lack.

“I think Tyler Lacy is another one that has really emerged,” Jaguars coach Doug Pederson told reporters Monday morning. “He played well in the [preseason] game [against the Detroit Lions], he continues to get better right there. … I think [Jeremiah] Ledbetter and [Adam] Gotsis, the combination of those two and possibly Tyler Lacy is a good combination to fill in [for Hamilton].”

Lacy, who was drafted with the No. 130 overall pick in the fourth round this April, had a relatively quiet start to his first camp with the Jaguars. On Saturday, PFF credited him with three defensive stops, second most on the team behind only Ledbetter.

Barring additional defensive line injuries, Lacy isn’t likely to see a ton of snaps as a rookie. But Pederson’s comments certainly suggest that the Oklahoma State alum’s spot on the 53-man roster is secure.
