Among the names cut from active NFL rosters was Josh Pederson, who didn’t make the Jacksonville Jaguars’ squad before the 2023 season begins.
Why is it significant that a tight end who played for the USFL and has shuttled around NFL rosters since leaving Louisiana-Monroe was on that list?
Because his dad is Doug Pederson, who happens to be the head coach of the Jaguars.
There wasn’t a lot of fanfare about the younger Pederson being part of the Jags’ camp. Nor was there much talk about Doug’s team cutting his son. But there you have it. Nepotism is dead (for one day).
Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson released his own son, Josh Pederson, from the team on cutdown day.
The 25-year-old tight end didn't make the 53-man squad.

He may be remembered for this bad snap when pressed into emergency snapping duties in the preseason:

UPDATE: He’s back on the practice squad! Nepotism is back, baby!
The #Jaguars are re-signing TE Josh Pederson, the son of head coach Doug Pederson, to their practice squad, per source.
