A man recorded the moment an attempted burglary was deterred by his Ring Floodlight Camera. In footage shared by Iain Scott, four men with their faces covered and bolt cutters in hand can be seen approaching his car and trying to open one of the doors. Their motion alerted Iain’s security camera, prompting the light to turn on which quickly scared them off the property, which ultimately prevented the crime.
After seeing the video in the morning, Iain shared the footage with local police and neighbours to alert them to the attempted theft. A member of the community social group, later shared that a local Police Community Support Officer mentioned four men matching the description in Iain’s video were apprehended for causing trouble in the local area.
Iain Scott, 35, from Dundry, near Bristol said: “Our Floodlight Camera really did its job! You can tell the group was unaware of the camera and light so as soon as it turned on, they ran off. Having the Ring footage available on my phone when we woke up the next day meant we became aware of the attempt and alerted our local community and the police.
"We have village social media groups to share events, activities and most importantly instances of crime or antisocial behaviour. I found out from other neighbours, which way they went as they triggered other Ring devices and over the next few nights, they tried to gain access to several properties locally, but did not try ours again thanks to our Floodlight Camera.”
With a small toddler at home, Iain has been more concerned about security in general and installed the camera a couple of days before the incident took place. He has found keeping in touch and sharing information with the local community makes him feel safer as he is aware of the issues affecting the neighbourhood.
Dave Ward, Managing Director EU & International at Ring said: “At Ring we’re committed to making neighbourhoods safer, and seeing this video of a potential crime deterred with the help of the Floodlight Cam is a great testament to how our devices can bring our customers an extra layer of security and added peace of mind.”
The Ring Floodlight Camera comes with Night Vision and advanced motion detection to keep the property secure day or night, and act as a deterrent for any potential crimes. It also comes with LED lights for protection and extra visibility when dark.
