President Donald Trump's repeated hand-tapping in Dallas and Washington videos has drawn fresh health speculation after critic David Pakman highlighted the clips on 14 September. Pakman discussed footage from the Republican National Committee's midterm convention and a White House event earlier that month. Trump's latest public medical report disclosed no neurological diagnosis.
Trump underwent his annual physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on 26 May. A memorandum released three days later reported normal mental status, motor strength, sensation, reflexes, gait and balance. It also said Trump scored 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment and remained in 'excellent health.'

Pakman focused on footage showing Trump descending aircraft steps before the Republican Midterm Convention at the American Airlines Center. The event ran on 9 and 10 September in Dallas, according to the Dallas County Republican Party.
In the clip, Trump holds the railing with his left hand and taps his right thigh while walking. Pakman described the president's right arm as 'stiff like a board' and said he appeared to walk 'very gingerly.' Those descriptions are Pakman's interpretation, not a medical assessment.
Pakman also highlighted another convention appearance where Trump appeared to make a similar tapping motion while walking. He suggested the gesture appeared when Trump was navigating steps or paying closer attention to his footing. The footage shows the movement, but it does not establish its cause.
A separate clip came from the Steel Across America event on the Ellipse in Washington on 8 September. The White House confirms Trump attended the event commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Pakman pointed to another thigh-tapping movement as Trump left.
Pakman said 'one possibility raised online is this is a physical cue.' He noted that cueing techniques can be used in rehabilitation for some movement problems. That general practice does not establish that Trump uses such a technique or has a neurological disorder.
Clinical guidance from the American Physical Therapy Association discusses external cueing for people with Parkinson's disease. The guidance covers sensory cues used during gait training. It is treatment guidance for diagnosed patients, not a tool for diagnosing someone from video footage.
Donald Trump Medical Report Found Normal Neurological Function
Pakman explicitly stopped short of diagnosing Trump with Parkinson's disease, a stroke or another neurological condition. He said those possibilities had not been confirmed. That distinction matters because short clips do not provide the clinical evidence needed for a diagnosis.
Trump's latest publicly released annual physical was conducted at Walter Reed on 26 May. Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, physician to the president, released the findings on 29 May. The report described Trump's neurological examination as normal and said his cognitive and physical performance were excellent.
The same memorandum noted slight lower-leg swelling and bruising on the backs of Trump's hands. It attributed the bruising to minor soft-tissue irritation from frequent handshaking while taking aspirin. The report said the swelling had improved from the previous year.
A July 2025 medical update had previously disclosed chronic venous insufficiency after Trump reported mild swelling in his lower legs. The memorandum said testing found no evidence of deep-vein thrombosis or arterial disease. It also reported no signs of heart failure, renal impairment or systemic illness.
Trump turned 80 on 14 June and is serving his second term as the 47th president of the United States. His latest released medical findings recorded normal gait, balance, strength, sensation and reflexes, without disclosing a neurological diagnosis.
