Donald Trump took the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania, but mere minutes into the rally, he appeared to be struck by something, prompting him to duck to the ground and then be escorted into a black car by Secret Service.

Around 10 popping sounds in rapid succession that resembled gunshots reverberated, prompting people in the crowd to scream and duck.

After Secret Service stood on the stage, they announced the area was clear. Agents then grabbed Trump by the arms, hoisted him up to standing, and escorted him off the stage and into a vehicle.

It’s not immediately clear what he was shot with, but blood dripped across the former president’s face.

It appears his ear had been grazed.

Within 30 minutes of being rushed off the stage, the former president said he is “fine,” according to the Associated Press. A Secret Service spokesperson said the agency has “implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available.”

Trump is currently “being checked out at a local medical facility,” according to his campaign spokesperson.

Some supporters sitting behind Trump were also hit, according to reports.
