Donal Og Cusack says Limerick on verge of becoming greatest of all time

Donal Og Cusack says Limerick are on the verge of becoming the greatest hurling team of all time.

The Treaty County marched into a fourth successive All-Ireland final at the expense of Galway on Saturday evening.

John Kiely's side are now one game away from winning a fifth All-Ireland title in six trophy-laden years.

And former Cork goalkeeper Cusack believes Limerick are already one of hurling's greatest sides.

He said on RTE Sport: "This Limerick team is one of the greatest teams of all time and could be considered the greatest given what happens in a couple of weeks' time.

"Some of their players are generational players. I was at the League final in Cork and watched them marching behind the band and I was thinking that right through the history of the game those players are some of the top players."

After getting off to a slow start, Limerick eased their way into the game and dominated the second half to ease into the final.

Their points were coming from all over the pitch as 12 different players got on the scoreboard.

One of the most impressive came from powerhouse Kyle Hayes, who went on a trademark barrelling run down the left wing before nonchalantly scooping the ball over the bar despite the ball being trapped close to his chest.

Referencing the score, Cusack said: "This is inter-county hurling and an All-Ireland semi-final.

"It's like something out of a comic book in that he has got the power to carry the ball that distance and then flick the ball the way he did with the outside of his hurley at that speed."

Limerick await the winners of tomorrow's other semi-final between Clare and Kilkenny at Croke Park.
