A housing development for over 1,300 homes in Donabate has been granted planning permission.
The Corballis East neighbourhood was submitted as a strategic housing development and was given approval on Monday, November 14 by An Bord Pleanala. The €360 million plans had gone through an oral hearing over concerns it would impact on the Dublin to Belfast train line.
As a result of that, 42 of the planned units were removed. The plans that were given approval include 625 apartments, 352 duplex apartments and 346 houses.

Residents had raised concerns about the size of the development and the impact it would have on an area with such rapid development. Fianna Fail Councillor Adrian Henchy previously said he had reservations about the "enormous" development.
He told Dublin Live: "It's over densified for a small area like Donabate which is a growing area but not for something like that. Outer surrounding areas have developed in the last 20 years but this application's density is far too high and it's too many apartments."
The developers Aledo, which is part of the Cannon Kirk group, welcomed the approval for the plans which will be the second biggest housing development in the country. In a statement, they called it a "big moment for Fingal and Dublin".
It said: ‘’All of our team here in Aledo Donabate are thrilled that this historic project has been granted. In a housing emergency and at a time where the need for housing in Ireland has never been greater, this is a big moment for Fingal and Dublin as a whole. This project finally going ahead is fantastic news for young families in the area looking to buy a home, for everyone struggling to rent a property and for everyone who simply wants the chance to have a home.
‘’In addition to much needed housing, the scheme will deliver a significant nature park for the wider community, a school site, three creches and walking and cycling links to the Broadmeadow Greenway, Donabate Train Station and Newbridge Demesne. Our next task is to deliver this project for the community. We intend to be on site in 2023. We will engage with local stakeholders as our construction programme is finalised.’’
