Don't Worry Darling: What's going on with stars Harry Styles, Florence Pugh, Olivia Wilde, and Chris Pine?

Hollywood drama has been rife surrounding the upcoming movie Don’t Worry Darling. The most recent being rumours of a fallout between Harry Styles, 28, and Chris Pine, 42, following “spit-gate”.

A video that some believe shows Harry spitting on Chris at the Venice Film Festival on Monday has gone viral. However, the alleged incident has been denied by the singer turned actor and no spit is visible in the footage, the Mirror reports.

Don’t Worry Darling is a psychological thriller and the second film directed by Olivia Wilde, 38. The leading role of Alice is played by Florence Pugh, 26, with Harry playing her on-screen husband Jack.

The latest rumours surrounding Harry and Chris, who plays his boss Frank in the film, were largely ignited when Them editor Michael Cuby tweeted at Harry: “Did you or did you not spit on Chris Pine?”

There is no known beef between the actors. However, fans were quick to point out another video of Chris “zoning out” whilst Harry spoke during press interviews for the movie. One tweeted: “Chris Pine zoning out in a press conference is a mood.”

This is not the first time that the rumour mill has latched on to an alleged backstage feud between cast members. Fans speculated that Florence and Olivia had fallen out after the leading actress seemingly snubbed the Don't Worry Darling press conference and was seen strutting through Venice sipping a cocktail instead, the Mirror reports.

Florence was also reported to have avoided the film’s director Olivia on the premiere’s red carpet, according to the Hollywood Reporter . Florence did not attend the Venice Film Festival’s press conference for the movie, leading to speculation of an ongoing feud with Olivia.

During the press conference Olivia addressed the rumours, stating: “As for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, I mean, the internet feeds itself. I don't feel the need to contribute. I think it's sufficiently well-nourished."

Interest in the film’s behind the scenes goings on peaked after Olivia and Harry were seen hand in hand at a wedding in January 2021, after meeting in 2020 when he was cast in Don’t Worry Darling. The pair are thought to have been dating since then, however they’ve kept their relationship relatively private.

Harry was not originally cast in the role, joining after Shia Labeouf left the film. Director Olivia told Variety: "His process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions."

However, he later refuted this, saying in an open letter: "You and I both know the reasons for my exit. I quit your film because your actors and I couldn't find time to rehearse."

Don’t Worry Darling is set for release in UK cinemas on September 23.
