Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, a reimagining of the 1991 film, released its first teaser on Wednesday. The R-rated comedy is written by Chuck Hayward and directed by Wade Allain-Marcus.
Simone Joy Jones steps into the role originally portrayed by Christina Applegate. The ensemble cast includes Nicole Richie, June Squibb, Donielle Tremaine Hensley, Jermaine Fowler, Ms. Pat, and newcomers Miles Fowler, Iantha Richardson, Gus Kenworthy, and Tyriq Withers.
The storyline follows Tanya Crandell, played by Jones, a 17-year-old looking forward to a summer with friends before starting at Howard University. However, her plans change when her mother goes on a wellness retreat, leaving Tanya in charge of her siblings after the sudden passing of their elderly babysitter, played by June Squibb. Tanya then takes a job with Rose, portrayed by Richie, navigating work, family, and a complex romance.
The film explores Tanya's journey into adulthood, balancing responsibilities with the desire for freedom. Tyra Banks, through SMiZE Productions, serves as one of the executive producers for the movie, produced in collaboration with BET+’s Original Films.
Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead is set to hit theaters on April 12, distributed by Iconic Events Releasing.
