Don’t hike property tax, CPM tells CM MK Stalin

CHENNAI: CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan has written to chief minister M K Stalin urging him to reconsider the move to increase the property tax by 6% annually, as it would adversely affect the poor and middle class sections of the society.

In a letter, he highlighted issues such as the rising prices of petrol, diesel and LPG. Balakrishnan also noted that many lost their jobs and suffered salary cuts.

The Union government’s announcement that local bodies should increase the property tax if they have to avail central funds and assistance is highly condemnable, he said.
