MIAMI — When Don Francisco began speaking to Hispanic viewers in the United States, the community was a fraction of its current size. He watched it grow through waves of immigration, became one of its most familiar television faces, and, for nearly three decades from Miami, hosted a Saturday-night show that tried to speak to Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Central and South Americans at the same time.
Now, 11 years after Sábado Gigante ended, Don Francisco is returning to Univision with a show of his own: GIGANTES con Don Francisco. The audience he hopes to reach starting this Sunday, Oct 11, is approaching 70 million people, roughly one in five U.S. residents, and millions of Latino families are living through a new period of immigration enforcement, deportations, and uncertainty over their status or that of people close to them.
