Don Cheadle Excited For Robert Downey Jr.'S MCU Return

Robert Downey Jr. enjoying Haloween

Don Cheadle expressed his excitement for Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly in his new role as the villain Doctor Doom. Cheadle, who plays James 'Rhodey' Rhodes (War Machine) in the MCU, shared his anticipation for how Doctor Doom's storyline will unfold, emphasizing that even he, like the fans, is unsure of what to expect.

During the premiere of his latest movie 'Unstoppable' at the Toronto International Film Festival, Cheadle discussed the surprising casting of Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, a character unfamiliar to him initially. Despite the initial jest, Cheadle acknowledged the announcement as exciting and mentioned the curiosity surrounding the upcoming storyline.

When asked about the possibility of reuniting on screen with Downey Jr., Cheadle remained cryptic, leaving fans to speculate about a potential collaboration between their characters in future MCU projects.

Cheadle has portrayed Rhodey since 'Iron Man 2' in 2010, taking over the role from Terrence Howard. His character evolved into War Machine and appeared in several MCU films, including 'Avengers: Endgame,' where Downey Jr.'s Iron Man met a tragic end.

Despite Downey Jr.'s character's fate in 'Endgame,' the unexpected casting of him as Doctor Doom has reignited interest in his return to the MCU. Cheadle's character, on the other hand, has continued to feature in various Marvel projects, such as 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' and 'What If…?'

Additionally, Cheadle is set to headline 'Armor Wars,' a project based on a comic storyline of the same name. Although the status of the series remains uncertain due to delays and potential redevelopments, Cheadle's playful responses to inquiries about the project have kept fans intrigued.

As Cheadle navigates the evolving landscape of the MCU, he remains tight-lipped about potential future collaborations and projects, in line with Marvel's tradition of secrecy surrounding plot details and casting announcements.

Outside of the MCU, Cheadle's upcoming projects include 'Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist' alongside Kevin Hart, currently streaming on Peacock, and the biographical sports drama 'Unstoppable,' where he portrays coach Shawn Charles to wrestler Anthony Robles, set to release on December 6.
